
University of Genoa invites applications for one doctoral fellowship in the new pan-European doctoral network ‘The International Dimensions and Effects of Populism’ (IDEoPOP), which is funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe – Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Doctoral Networks (MSCA-DN).

Doctoral candidates’ recruitment is subject to the mobility rule. Applicants may be nationals of Member States, Associated Countries, or any other third country. Additionally, the applicant must not have lived or worked in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months prior to their date of recruitment, excluding short stays such as holidays.
Title of the project: Foreign and defense policy change. The role of populist actors in Europe
Project description: Under what conditions do populists bring change in foreign and defense policy? The research answers this question by looking at the factors that foster or hinder transformation in foreign policy. The project investigates specifically the role played by vital aspects as ideology, party system, institutional settings, regional and international constraints. The study allows to provide a relevant contribute to the current scholarly debate on populism and foreign policy, also aiming at connecting the different viewpoints on policy change existing in FPA (Foreign Policy Analysis), public policy, and party politics. A specific attention is devoted to defense policy change. The empirical analysis is based on a comparative perspective, examining the cases of Italy, Spain, and France.
